[opensuse] Panel pop-ups
I asked this before and was told that it only is possible on 10.3. So, i ditched SLED and installed 10.3 and now i would like to have "panel pop-ups". In other words, when you have something minimized on the panel/taskbar and you hover your mouse over it, a pop-up of that app shows. How do you do this in 10.3? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Happens automatically - in kde anyway... Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sorry, i am using gnome. I am not talking about the text pop-up; i am looking for the "picture" pop-up
It is possible to do this with Compiz Fusion:
http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_fusion
And KDE doesn't show the Window Preview... at least not KDE3
Hope that helps :)

When folowing this page, i get confused. I have compiz installed and using desktop effects. The way i am reading this is compiz-fusion is different that just compiz? So, i first have to install compiz-fusion? If this is right, can i just install compiz-fusion with the one-click install and not uninstall compiz? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Chris, You can install compiz-fusion using one-click without first uninstalling compiz. Yast will take care of dependicies, obsoletes etc. I have done this successfully on 2 systems. I have both KDE and Gnome desktops installed (although I generally use KDE) so I used the one-click install for compiz-fusion-all. Works great. I used the 1-click for gnome and the install went ok. But after i ran the commands compiz-manager & and the others (i can't remember them off the top of my head), my windows are missing the "close, maximize and minimize" buttons (i can not move the windows either by dragging them). Should i go back to compiz or how do i fix this? I also have an "untitled window" in the panel that will not go away. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

On KDE (probably the same on Gnome) you run Compiz Fusion Icon. This puts an icon in the system tray that gives you direct access to the Settings Manager, Emerald Theme Manager and some other settings (with a right click on the system tray icon - left click does nothing). Run Compiz Fusion Icon, then right click and check what window decorator is selected. You have the option of GTK, KDE or Emerald. You may also want to experiment with the Loose Binding and Indirect Rendering options under Compiz Options (in the right-click menu). On my NVidia card I don't need either checked (using the proprietary drivers) whereas with the Intel chipset in my laptop I need both. BTW, on my laptop I initially installed just the kde packages via 1-click but I had problems, so I went back and installed compiz-fusion-all. Once I figured out the best settings for each box it has worked flawlessly on both. I am using KDE, not Gnome, so YMMV, but I'm sure there are plenty of Gnome users using it as well. I do have Gnome installed, I just rarely go there. By default it only happens for windows on the current desktop. Oh, and for the record, compiz fusion is available for SLED10
This is not the reason i switched to 10.3. I switched b/c of the slowness in the dev of SLED. If you go to the settings for the module, there is an option for it

Can you change any settings at all in CCSM? I wonder if perhaps you've started compiz fusion with the gconf configuration setting Anders -- Madness takes its toll -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, i can uncheck "windows preview" and there isn't a windows preview with the active window. So, i would answer yes, i can change settings in CCSM, to that question. Well, if your changes in CCSM have some effect at all, then you haven't, so you have just checked it. In that case I don't know. All I had to do was to change that setting, and I got the thumbnails from all windows Anders -- Madness takes its toll -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

CCSM -> Preferences -> Backend. Check that it is using the Flat File backend, not GConf or KDE.
