[opensuse] Does anyone know why icons disappear from apps and panel?
Hi, I am using 12.1 on an eeepc seashell. KDE 4.7.2 After switching desktops a few times, or after wake up from sleep, icons are gone from apps and panel. The functionality is still there, when hovering it shows, but the icons are gone. Is there a way to make this behavior stop? (it is not nice when your candy gets stolen.. ;-) -- Have a nice day.. I used to be a smart-ass and tell people in other distro mail lists to switch over to openSUSE if they wanted to avoid something like this from occurring. Now oS is no longer different to other distros - but I will not suggest that you try Windows 8 or Apple :-) .

W8, i do not like on a desktop, more for smart phones.. Apple is for billionaires, but W7 is really nice, and in the past i used it, but i am getting bored with it, as with the other versions... uac, bad copy of Linux root sys, and the spy-, mall- and virus-scanners still annoy me, and after all this time i still can't really get used to them, so i am more interested in getting the KDE4's working right... You are not saying it is normal now, and has to be accepted, are you?

Have you installed all updates? Newer KDE fixed a lot of bugs. Can you add KDE 4.8 repo and do 'zypper dup'? http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/48/openSUSE_12.1/KDE... -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Screenshot of the missing icons? Sounds like a driver problem, but to have a better idea, I'd like to see the panel background where the icons should be. But this one shows the part where two more icons should be: Konsole and KWrite.. The others go away also, after a while and some shifting desktops and apps. -- Have a nice day.. Oddball. Now i updated as suggested by Felix. Now the same thing happens Oszkó Albert talks about; i can not login to a standard session. The screen to enter password appears infinitely, and i am forced to use safe mode. Here the way the panel should look before the icons vanished: -- Have a nice day.. Oddball. Make sure you select the Plasma Desktop session in the login screen. C. -- openSUSE 12.1 x86_64, KDE 4.8.4 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This is true. But should not need to, as the previous use, (before the update) was also KDE... Plasma desktop is an entrance that was not there before... I think this must be confusing to anybody.... Or am i using the 12.2 inlogscreen now? I did various moves that should have made the icons vanish, but they did not....yet. Also sleep and wake up did not disturb anything... I think it is alright like this. Everything exactly comes back: music: where it stopped, new e-mail, where i left off, network and skype, everything reacting as should... :-D Thanks guys.. :-p -- Have a nice day.. Oddball. About the icons from apps and panel: Panel: icons stay on after the update to 48.
Apps still are somehow affected. Look at the screenshots to see what i mean. There is a screenshot from amarok, where the KSnapshot 'void' from the window stays behind, so i am not able to shoot what i wanted, but seems not a wanted effect as i presume. There is a pic from a TB new message window. And the sidebar from FF, as it looks most of the time, and the way it should look. This was more of a known "ooops" after a major update to KDE4 than anything. The name changed from one to the other and if you left it at the default "KDE" you got kicked back out to the login screen I wouldn't consider it a normal thing... just a side effect of the massive churn and evolution of KDE4.
