[opensuse] Language of the Gnome programs
Hi! How is it possible to change the GTK programs' language while I'm using KDE? I'd like to do different languages for the different users. In KDE apps I know how to do. regards, -- Gabor Kum Tel: +7 (926) 730 3113 Website: www.kumgabor.hu E-mail: kumgabor@kumgabor.hu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

regards,
in kde preferences, you can define sevral langages, they can be then selected by a little flag on the bottom right corner of the screen jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

sorry, I missed the "gnome" part... I beg there should be the same thing in gnome than in kde? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I use KDE, and some GTK/GNOME programs (gaim, thunderbird, etc...). And if I change language in KDE, in these applications will stay the original. -- Gabor Kum Tel: +7 (926) 730 3113 Website: www.kumgabor.hu E-mail: kumgabor@kumgabor.hu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Change the language in YaST (or directly in /etc/sysconfig/language). If you need a user specific language set the language variables in $HOME/.profile: #export LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 # uncomment this line for German output #export LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 # uncomment this line for French output #export LANG=es_ES.UTF-8 # uncomment this line for Spanish output You need to re-login after the change. Yes, or add such settings to the ~/.i18n file (create it if it does not exist). -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE Linux Products GmbH GPG: 1024D/06EB882E B2A3 AF2F CFC8 40B1 67EA 475A 5903 A21B 06EB 882E --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

depends what you mean by "the application laguage". Kde can just change the keyboard effect, when entering data, not change the langage the application use itself. This need a translation and is up to the app. by the zqy ity4s the keyboqrd thqt displqys q flqg in the right corner and only if there are several countries selected. I you may see I used the english keyboard for the previous paragraph (I write this with mozilla) and as you can see it's written in qwerty (a is writen z...) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

GNOME applications honor the locale environment, i.e. the LANG, LC_MESSAGES and LC_ALL environment variable. Try to launch set $ export LANG=de_DE.utf-8 # (or any other locale) and open you faviourite application afterwards in the same shell. For example: $ export LANG=de_DE.utf-8 $ gimp & Does this work?
