[opensuse] seamonkey 2.0 + kmail? + java?
Hi, With 11.2 I installed seamonkey 2.0, until now my preferred browser, but... a) how can I tell seamonkey to launch kmail if I click a mailto-link on a website? It always wants me to use mozillas own email client... I googled, but the solutions I found don't work (entering something in about:config, that worked in Seamonkey 1.x, but doesn't have any effect anymore in 2.0) or seems to be impossible (removing the mail part of seamonkey, but I cannot find a separate email rpm in Yast that I could remove). b) seamonkey doesn't work with Java anymore (Java, not JavaScript). Googling says, I have to install the JRE, but I cannot find this in Yast, only on Suns website. Do I really have to download from there and install it to enable seamonkey for Java applets? Any suggestions? Thanks. Found out that besides of the Sun-Java-rpms there were also openjdk-rpms installed (don't know why). I removed the openjdk packages and now java works in all browsers. However, I still cannot launch kmail from seamonkey. Any help? OpenJDK is installed by default (in place of the real Java)... OpenJDK never really works right on any of my machines it's been installed on. C -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Do you mean Java apps or Java applets? The Java apps should works well, because openjdk is built from same Sun source codes as Sun Java. The biggest difference is an applet technology, which is implemented in openjdk from scratch (and a lack of standardization don't help it much). Regards Michal Vyskocil

It's an opensource software and with an exception of Java applet it's fully compatible with a Sun Java (because it is build using the same set of sources). The applet technology is not standardized nor opensourced. But java-1_6_0-sun is fully supported in openSUSE and you can replace the openjdk without a big problem (the last problem with Sun Java has been a 64bit Java plugin, but it's released by Sun).
