Yep. Not not much fun. Fergus *is* a regular poster to this list and *only* those subscribed can post. It comes down to a wrong mouse click ;-( The question that remains is: Is there a way to strip off *all* attchments from the mails to the list (yieppieh no more attached cards) and / or limit the max size of a mail to a certain (say 32-64KB) limit, to prevent the worst from the occasional misposting. If this can be turned into a wish list, Id like to see HTML vanish too. Hi Jürgen! I'm not in doubt that Fergus Wilde is a nice person. But the issue of attachments remains. I have a hard time to see what fruits a discussion list can harvest from attachments. I'm running a Danish list. Despite the limited number of members, I had to block attachments. It was a rather simple job to carry out. I'm sure that the SuSE list moderator could do the same if he wished to do so. Yeah, let's get rid of HTML postings and JAVA for that matter. I agree with the second part of Niels' message. The cr.., er rubbish we get from html sourced postings far outweighs Fergus's bungle. Java less so. Java can be disabled. We must be able to cut out everything between <html> and </html> Bruce.

I have one case where attachments are extremely valuable and quite pertinent to the aims of this list. I'm running Netscape Messenger, which doesn't support cut-and-paste to or from any X windows other than its own. If I want to include a sequence of shell output in a posted message, I do it by saving that output to a file (easy to do in Emacs, say) and then attaching the file to the message. The attachment is pure text, of course. It would be better, I'd think, to limit the size of messages than to ban attachments. Works here... I am running v.4.75 and gpm. I tried the following: 1) c&p from Netscape to Composer 2) xterm to Composer 3) kmail to Composer they all worked perfectly... oh, I c&p by selecting the text and clicking in the 3rd mouse button. Of course you can cut and paste to and from Messenger, but I understand that the solution is not that obvious, it took me a while to get the hang of it. You can cut from a terminal by selecting with the mouse and hit Ctrl+c then you can paste into Messenger with the middle mouse button, same method applies to kedit, gedit, emacs, StarOffice...bla, bla...:-)
