[opensuse] Fax sending/receiving with SuSE 10.3
When I still had my dual-boot desktop I could send and receive faxes through a simple Windows tool. I inquired about the same feature with SuSE some time ago. Someone told me it is possible but not easy to install and set up the tool to do that. I wonder if this is a doable effort with SuSE 10.3. ??? Receiving faxed documents through the computer is a great benefit as we can easily store them in digital format. Otherwise we have to scan them (usually getting a poor quality image) and then store them. The best tool, without question, is hylafax. It is an overkill to send a single fax or two, but... it is the best. It is actually a fax server: you can send and receive from any machine in the network, for instance. Try it! - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Does it belong to SuSE installation kit ? Is it difficult to set up ? Thank you. Maura --- "Carlos E. R." <robin.listas@telefonica.net> wrote:

Based on my experience, it would be not an easy just like WinFax setup but please keep in mind that it is not as difficult just like another complicated software. Setting up wireless LAN with unknown chipset in OpenSUSE seems to be more difficult :-) I've a simple installation tutorial but it was written on Indonesian version, http://www.vavai.com/index.php?/archives/56-Fax-Melalui-Komputer-Menggunakan-HylaFax-OpenSuSE-10.2.html&serendipity[entrypage]=all You can reached another installation how to from hylafax handbook : http://www.hylafax.org/content/Handbook -- Best Regards, Masim "Vavai" Sugianto /************************************************************/ Blog (ID) : http://www.vavai.com/blog/index.php Blog (EN) : http://www.vavai.net Community : http://www.opensuse.or.id Email : vavai@vavai.com /************************************************************/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Depends on what you call difficult. I find it easier than samba or wifi. If you have a fake modem/fax, then it may be impossible. You need a /real/ fax/modem. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Which is to say a hardware modem, however Lucent offers a product to enable your WinModem to send and receive faxes with their driver.
