[SuSE Linux] KDE Install Question
I'd like to have KDE on the HD for some of its apps, however I do NOT want to run KDE when logging in. I specifically don't want Kwm and kfm to run at all. How do I get a different wm to be the default, once I DL kde from SuSE's CD's? My experience with 5.3 is that if kde is there, it defaults to it. Also, any suggestions to cure this one? As root, root can only access an X-session via startx, which runs fvwm2. When xdm is run, the users can login, but root can not. (This is a straight 5.3 install without kde. Maybe that's my prob?) In the rc.config file is the entry for X manager, I changed mine back to XDM over KDM, can easily switch managers to KDE whenever I need it. As I recall I believe that there's also a setting available in yast, but my old habits of editing my config files dies hard...

Never had that problem here with either my 5.2 system or my 5.3 system. Sorry...

First of all, you should have a .xinitrc-file in your homedirectory. Then, go to /etc and edit the profile-file as follows: Go to the line containing $WINDOWMANAGER=/usr/X11R&/bin/startkde Change startkde to whatever windowmanager you prefer. Ta-daaaaaaaa!
