[opensuse] I can't eradicate those **** 32bit packages from my openSuse 11
As for $Subject: it's simply not possible to eradicate all 32-bit packages from my x86_64 installation because of dependencies on glibc-32bit, due to flash and realplayer. Please guys, can you please refrain from adding those artificial dependencies? Not everybody want to have RealPlayer and Flash installed, just like me that avoid them like the plague. I wonder how much space, bandwidth and time would be saved by just moving that 32bit stuff to a separate repository. It's sad to see so much useless baggage still carried along like a ball at the foot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Excuse me but wth are you talking about ? what do you mean by "artificial dependencies" ? Not everybody want to have RealPlayer and Flash
installed, just like me that avoid them like the plague.
Then remove them, those are not mandatory.

sure, it will save bandwidth and space, but will not solve the problem to be solved, it is much more complicated. -- "A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy. I call then "artificial" because they are not necessary to run a 64bit installation

the problem here is that removing glibc-32bit and what follows doesn't seem to be possible -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You need to remove first the apps requiring them. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. try to remove glibc-32bit (that should remove all 32bit packages) and see what happens: zypper will tell you that you have to remove basically ALL packages, _INCLUDING_ 64 bit ones. Obviously this is total nonsense: why on earth should 64bit packages depend on glibc-32bit ?????? For this reason I wrote that Suse includes artificial dependencies. Please developers, reconsider this 32-bit mess -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Developpers do not read this list. You have got to tell them in a Bugzilla, if you can prove your point. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
