Greetings: Seems to be an onging issue with the latest version of SuSE 8.0 at least at this end. Here is the scenario: 1. SuSE 8.0 boxed install international version. 2. Yast2 used to update Yast2 via YOU nothing else. 3. No ftp install function available after update.. no packettes transmitted. 4. OK lets try apt-get. 5. Installed and works seemlessly inclusive of updating all base packages and yes I read the notice on it but as I have a fast link it should be a non issue. Wrong. The rpm numbers are not in syn me thinks. 6. Now ftp funtion in Yast2 works but once again, all rpms are out of sync between those on the installed machine (derriveg from ftp.gwdg.de) and those that YAST2 wants to look at via ftp.suse.com or ftp.gwdg.de 7. An example. Spell checker does not seem to be functional from Kmail with default SuSE 8.0 install. Why? I have no idea other than an error message. Ispell is installed. OK none issue, lets fire up apt-get and get the new version if available. No new version available. Ok so lets reinstall the package this time from the net via Yast2 Error Message: Package: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de//pub/linux/suse/suse_update/8.0/suse/spl1/ispell-3.2.06-114.i386.rpm returns an erro: File not found on server (even not on ftp.suse.com[editor]) or connection refused..... So some very basic questions before I tackle this issue again. 1. Are not the rpm version numbers kept in sync between ftp.gwdg.de, ftp.suse.com and the apt-get archives? 2. Why when updating Yast2 via YOU the ftp function is available but still aparently functionless. 3. Is there any chance of seeing a Yast version similar to 7.3 again. It was so simple to use. Yast1 is currently very poorly designed and far too incomplete to be usefull. I guess there is a corallary to this, was is the release schedule for a completed, QA's and released version of Yast1. Many thanks. a very frustrated Chris H PS: sorry no spell checker currently available.

Hi :) SuSE 8 spell checker worked ok, for me ~ have since upgraded Kmail with apt-get , &, spell-checker works OK { available in Edit menu, when composing, or, editing e-mail in outbox } { maybe Murphy is away, on brief holiday ;o) } -- best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________
