[opensuse] Amarok and MySQL
I'm trying to get Amarok 1.4 to use the MySQL database, and I think I've messed things up. I'm using KDE 3.5.10 running on opensuse 11.1. Under MySQL Configuration, I've got Hostname: localhost Port: 3306 Database: amarok Questions: 1. What is the correct Username? 2. What is the correct password? Do I need to make any magic incantations to the MySQL god (or daemon)? I've setup mysqld to start at bootup. I keep getting 'Access Denied' error messages, whatever I enter for 1 and 2 above. Hi install webmin. Use it to create the amarak user (if it's not root). Use it to handle users and passwords in MySQL. -- ------------------------------ Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard Open Source Academy +45 56964223 Novell Certified Linux Professional 10035701 ------------------------------ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thank you. Which repository would I find it in? #zypper in webmin Retrieving repository 'RPM' metadata [done] Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... 'webmin' not found. To the best of my knowledge it's not in any repo. Just surf to www.webmin.com and fetch the RPM. Install, as root, with #rpm -Uvh webmin... Then fire up your browser, goto http://localhost:10000 :-) -- ------------------------------ Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard Open Source Academy +45 56964223 Novell Certified Linux Professional 10035701 ------------------------------ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Bob, Have you created the amarok database? You need to do the following (as root); Set the root password for mysql Create the amarok database Create the amarok user and assign a password Give the user the appropriate grants to access the amarok database (critically important). There are instructions on the page that Martin gave you the link to. Bob, there's a set of instructions at http://opensuse-community.org/Amarok#Getting_Amarok_to_work_with_MySQL that works just fine for getting Amarok 1.4 to work with Mysql. I use Amarok 1.4 on OpenSuse 11.0 with KDE 3.5.10, and it works fine. Use Yast. Install Mysql. Enable it to run on start. Add the database name and password. Run Amarok and switch to mysql - note this needs the packman version of amarok, not the original suse version. All this is detailed in the notes at the url above.
