Hi, I get a rather squished and small font in new xterms lately. I have not touched any config but it is unreadable. It seems to be bold too. Not sure because it is so small. =) How do I get a larger font in xterm? The man page is so long it seems like a weekend conference with the topic "Linux and the xterm". =) Thanks, Marcel ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Hi there, X Windows offers a program called xlsfonts, that provides a list of available fonts on your X Windows system. To see a list of available fonts on your system, use the following command in an xterm window: $ xlfonts | more (or $ xlfonts | less) The "| more" (or "| less") part of the command allows you to page through the long list of fonts by hitting the spacebar (or the page down button in case of "| less") to move forward a page. In order to choose a different (larger) font, you should use the command $ xterm -fn 10x20 & If you want to experimant with other fonts, use xlfonts to see a list of fonts, select a font and then use the xfd command to display the font in a window. For example, to display the Sony font "-sony-fixed-medium-r-normal-24-230-75-75-c-120-iso8859-1", you should the command: $ xfd -fn -sony-fixed-medium-r-normal-24-230-75-75-c-120-iso8859-1 The -fn flag specifies the font name. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Hello ! My internet connection has been very slow lately (< 1kb/s). Since people around here tell me that they have faster connections with the same ISP, I have the feeling it is my modem. Before, I had connections that averaged around 2-3 kb/s. I have the feeling that the problem might be linked to me upgrading from SuSE 5.3 to 6.0, but I'm not sure. I have a 38400 modem and I added the line etserial /dev/ttyS3 spd_vhi into /etc/rd.d/boot.local which worked perfectly before. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what might be the problem ? Hmm, the correct place for the above line is /sbin/init.d/serial Please try to use the parameters in there abd check, if it makes a difference. Lenz, although I am not the starter of this thread or question, your answer
brings up a matter in my mind...putting such a line in the /sbin/init.d/serial
seems to work in my experience. But in recent versions of SuSE (6.0 and
beyond?) a message comes back in the "message" log file (or sometimes on
reboot) saying that the use of spd_vhi is "deprecated".
Any idea why this might be? What would be a better implementation for high
speed modems (above 38400)?

Is there a "xterm*font:" set in your ~/.Xdefaults?
How do I get a larger font in xterm? The man page is so long it seems like a weekend conference with the topic "Linux and the xterm". =)
For temporary changes you can select a font with the mouse (get a list with "xlsfonts"), then ctrl-rightbutton in the xterm to get the "VT Fonts" menu, then select "selection". The xterm should redraw itself with whatever font you picked. If you find a font you like, you can make it permanent by putting it in your ~/.Xdefaults file in a line like: xterm*font: -adobe-courier-bold-r-normal--14-140-75-75-m-90-iso8859-1 You might also occasionally find it useful to use the "-fn fontname" option on xterm to override the default if you're running it from a shell (menu). [If you so desire, you can change the other fonts in the "VT Fonts" menu by editing the XTerm file. The entries that start with "*VT100*font[1-5]:" are the ones you want to change. No, these have nothing to do with your default font, I just thought I'd mention them to confuse the issue. ;) ] -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
