Re: [SLE] SCSI Epson ADF scanning doesn't work

Try vuescan from http://www.hamrick.com, it doesn't depend on the sane libraries, supports the 1640XL, I don't know if you'll have any luck with the SU as I don't know if they use the same basic engine for the Expression and the Perfection, but with enhanced specs for the Expression. Regards Sid.
Thanks for the tip. I downloaded the demo, installed it on Suse 9.1. A quick test veryfied that the document was loaded through the ADF and scanned. Terje J. Hanssen

OK. The only problem is that it does not work with the gimp, the guys on the gimp mailing list asked me to consult hamrick.com. If I use it as a gimp plugin, it goes through the gimp preamble, starts vuescan, but the gimp windows never open. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Work with it the *other* way. Use the gimp to view/edit the results. Set the external viewer and editor in VueScan to: gimp-remote-2.0 -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Thanks, I only saw gimp-remote-2.0 last night for the first time after building gimp-2.0.5 and wondered what it did, explained in "man gimp-remote". Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer =====LINUX ONLY USED HERE=====

Try vuescan from http://www.hamrick.com, it doesn't depend on the sane
ps: Latest version of vuescan are crippled with $ signs all over the output. Version 8.0.1 is not crippled. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Does 8.01 time out eventually? If not, where can I get a copy? Thanks, Fred -- "Running Windows on a Pentium is like getting a Porsche but only being able to drive it in reverse with the handbrake on."

Non-purchased vuescan puts $ signs on the output. In purchased versions, it's controlled by watermark in preference settings. I've been still using 8.0.9, but out of curiousity downloaded the latest 8.0.18 and it works just fine. No unwanted watermarks on the output. Regards, -Kastus

I have vers 8.0.[1-8-10-11-18] and all but 8.0.1 have the unwanted watermarks. Please email me the tgz file for 8.0.9. tks, -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Just did it in PM. As an afterthought, what license did you buy? Standard allows free upgrades for a year, pro is unlimited. Do you, by any chance, have a standard license? That might explain watermarks you see an versions 8.0.1+. Regards, -Kastus

No, didn't buy, no license. I can not justify the expense for a program that I would rarely use. I am very happy with xsane. One area where VueScan is *very* good is scanning slides/negatives, especially multiple slides. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
