Hi, I just came across some wmv files on a website of dumb silly RTL color TV network. I heared that this is a weired format from our closest friends. And, that allegedly mplayer can handle it. So I dled mplayer and compiled it in 8.1 which got the famous GCC 3. And, I can start the movie with 'mplayer <filename>' on the commandline. So far, so good! In KDE konqueror 'file associations', I also set mplayer as the first choice for wmv files. And here it comes: I cannot start the file by clicking it in konqueror, nor via the 'K*' menu. Any ideas about that ?? Cheers .... Wolfi ============================================= mailto:wolfi_z@gmx.net

Hmm, let's check: can you open the file by using "open with" (right mouse click on the file)? How are your embedded settings for wmv files? I have the same setup, and it works fine for me, so I'm trying to get a good picture of your settings. :) My settings are: Pattern: *.wmv Description: Windows Media File Application: gmplayer -vo x11 (Embedded) Left click action: Use settings for 'application' group Hope this helps. Regards, Pieter Hulshoff
I've done this on my 8.0 system. First, I compiled Mplayer with the GUI (--enable-gui option). This makes it easier to use in KDE if you are trying to click on media files in a file manager. Second, I set up the Konq File associations like this: - In General, Application preference order, I only have gmplayer - In Embedding, I selected Show file in sep. viewer Click Apply and exit... click away on your favorite *.wmv files. Works fine in 8.0... I assume the same in 8.1. C. On Sunday 06 October 2002 05:23, wolfi wrote:

This sound good! Where do you put this --enable-gui option? in ./configure ?? Cheers .... Wolfi ============================================= mailto:wolfi_z@gmx.net
Hi Just do "./configure --enable-gui". It will tell You, if You don't have all the neccessary libraries. And in konqueror, assosiate the file extension with to gmplayer, and also set it to "open to a separate program" (select the "display" tab on the same screen where You assosiate file-extensions). Then You can do a "normal" single-click, and it will open a new window for gmplayer, and plays the file. (yes, graphical mplayer is gmplayer). Jaska. On Sunday 06 October 2002 12:09, wolfi wrote:

OK, already tried that, and here it comes again .... It complains about the missing 'png' library, but png is definitely installed. Has someone experienced this ?? I guess this must be something with paths to libs and so *grr* I hate that crap. Cheers ... Wolfi ============================================= mailto:wolfi_z@gmx.net

Since you are compiling, maybe it isn't the png it needs but the devel pkg for png. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. You probably need libpng-devel installed... it's not always installed by default. C. On Sunday 06 October 2002 11:43, wolfi wrote:

Yup. Here's the error: Error: PNG support required for GUI compilation, please install libpng or libpng-dev packages. Now, I have libpng & libpng-devel installed. Does it matter that I have version 2.1? as opposed to 1.x? [09:23:13] bjackson@omnipitus:/tmp/MPlayer-0.90pre8 > rpm -qa|grep libpng libpng-2.1.0.12-120 libpng-devel-2.1.0.12-120 Is libpng-dev (what MPlayer is looking for) different than libpng-devel? I'll poke around on the MPlayer page as well. Don't confuse the package name with the library name. After installing the whatever-devel.rpm. just run ./configure again :-) -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Here is my guess: the file association is not done quite right. Here is one way to do that: open a konqueror, go to where your file is, right click on the file and choose "Edit File Type". Then see what application(s) are associated with that, and correct it if it is not the one you want. Hope that helps, Ali. On Saturday 05 October 2002 10:23 pm, wolfi wrote:
