Oops a little problem..... But this has nothing to do with KDE 1.0!!!! Because they don't manipulate your lilo (It isn'y Microsoft!!!!). What probably happend is that: You went into your BIOS, and did a auto-sence for your IDE harddisk (YUK IDE Troubles all the way)..... Anayway, you should, try switching that particallar harddisk type to LBA.. ( or turn it off). I had the same problem with my old P60, I could'nt install any of the Linux distributions (and I have a whole lot of them). Every time I saw LIL and the system hung. I at first solved the problem by making a DOS track and running LOADLIN with the parameters to my kernel. Afterwards, I found out that my BIOS wasn't really capable of running 1.2GB disk without LBA. After I switched that on it worked. And it still does!

Hi Susers !
I have installed KDE 1 from suse ftp site using :
rpm -i ksupp.rpm rpm -i klib... rpm -i kbase.rpm rpm -i others
and not the one named ''kdir.rpm'' because it was not listed in the CD's distribution SuSe 5.2.
now I am in a real troubles : I can't even start the SuSe 5.2 O.S, The guy who construct my PC and installed NT, SuSe 5.2, and I think a small part of DOS, configure this in a way I can slect the NT or SUSE 5.2.
Now when I select SUSE 5.2, I get : LIL...- and no thing else for nearly 1/2 an hour.
How can I desinstall KDE 1 and recover some thing,
If some one could help, I would appreciate.
PS: I do not possess the floppy disck, I think the PC constructor kept it or lost it.

Hi, it doesn't matter if you don't know how to get in a BIOS. Specially when your from the SUN platform.... How to get in the BIOS (it is simple). At a certain point in starting your machine (before LIL.... comes, you have to press DEL to enter the setup.) If that does'nt work try F1 also a commonly used key. But nowadays with the award BIOS it is the del key. And you can't have the problem I thought it was with LBA, when your using SCSI. I use several AHA2940 without a problem. If you have a bootable CDROM/Emergency Recover Disk then you can use it to run a recover with the SuSE distribution. You can make a new lilo then and your Master Boot Record will be fine. Datum: donderdag 13 augustus 1998 22:28 Raymond, I think like you KDE 1 should have no thing to do with LILO,..Kernel, or any thing with LINUX heart system !!! I forgett to mention that after the Installation of KDE1.0 I Shutdown KDE and manually the machine ! may be some thing happened at that time and I have lost an image of the system, may be what Hubert call /boot/map file ! I do not know how to go the BIOS, do not laugh on me!, this is true. I have a very very limited knolwedge of PCs. However I am sure I have no IDE things, Every thing is SCSI. If you can let me know how to go the BIOS, I would see what happened in their. I would need to go to the bios and see what the assembler of my machine have done ! I know that my motherboard SCSI controler was not supported by LINUX, So the assembler desactived it and installed an AHA2940 Ultra wide (Adaptec) controler. Now SuSE have made available a kernel which would support my mainboard. So It will be interesting to test it. If I can do that, I will have a flying machine for my Fortran programs. Right now I gained more than 50% CPU time vs. Sun Ultrasparcs 1, 2, and even 30. But right now it is hard be without LINUX for a hole day.
