HP LaserJet 5M Not Actually Printing ...yet
I took the advice from the list on setting up my HP LJ5M with SuSE 9.0 and it prints a test page just fine from YaST2. But when I try to print from Evolution, it warms up the printer so I know it's getting input but when it's time to print the LED goes right back to "Ready" mode without printing anything ? Any thoughts ? At least the test page looked good :-) Wish I could print something else. I use Textmaker 2002 for Linux and it does the same thing. Dee

I have seen this happen in quite a few cases... There is something wrong with the output... but you'll probably never figure out what (I never did). I would try (for testing only) a) printing to a file first and then printing directly, and b) try some other tests. (you probably have) If the printer is basically printing for most things but fails with evolution, then it is probably something evolution is doing that messes up the printer. One good thing to do is to always use 'kprinter' as a printing command. Not 'lpr' or 'lp' but kprinter. It seems to do a much better job of printing correctly. And beware, sometimes when you see the printer light go on and then off again without printing anything, the printer has been 'bolluxed' and needs to be turned off and on again before it will print anything.
