Hi! Trying to install postfix and courier-imap. I get to a point where i am instructed to start the services. From what i can tell they DO start.. But then my instructions tell me: "Start up your favorite mail client and verify that all connections you've started work for receiving and sending mail. Now that the basics work, we're going to do a whole bunch of stuff at once to get the rest of the system running. Again, please verify that what we've installed already works before progressing." Now the question is: How do i do that easiest? How do i test postfix? I tried to send mail to root (aliased to my ordinary external mail adress) That works. But how do i test sending to other adresses in my system? How do i test courier? -- /Rikard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rikard Johnels email : rikjoh@norweb.se Web : http://www.rikjoh.com Mob : +46 (0)735 05 51 01 ------------------------ Public PGP fingerprint ---------------------------- < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

Send a mail to a user (easiest with 'mail -s "some subject" user@host'), and observ the maillog (most likely /var/log/mail).
How do i test courier?
There's an extensive test-suite in 'make test' in the source. If that's successful use e.g. Mutt, Pine, Mozilla to connect to the imap server and see if you can read the Inbox. Again observ the log (var/log/messages), which will tell you what Courier does. Theo -- Theo v. Werkhoven Registered Linux user# 99872 http://counter.li.org ICBM 52 13 27N , 4 29 45E.
