I believe the Tseng driver and the Accel W32 driver for XF86 only support 8
bits maximum. Check the docs for the two servers to be sure. If you have
an ET6000 based card it might work though.

I just installed suse 5.1, and cannot seem to be able to get anything more than 8 bpp at any resolution.
My hardware definitley should support 24 bpp at 800x600. I have a hercules dynamite power with 2MB which is supported directly from the setup.
When I issue the command "startx -- -bpp 16" or "startx -- -bpp 24" I get screen garbage, and my system is then completly locked-up.
1024x768 at 8bpp works great. I have tried using the W32 driver as well as the suse_tseng driver with similar results.
What am I missing?
