Question re: Kernel
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I'm pretty sure I just did things the (very) hard way. I'm compiling a 2.6.6 kernel and ran "make oldconfig". I like to know what the parameters are so that I can make a pseudo-intelligent choice as to the value selected. The problem was that I couldn't find a place that had *ALL* the parameter descriptions. There are Kconfig files scattered over heaven and creation that have the parameters in them, but nothing with all of them. The only way I could find to find the descriptions was to grep for the parameter and use less to read about it. There has *GOT* to be a better way. Does anyone know of a file / site / whatever that has a description of all the config parameters in a single place - preferably by kernel version? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFApodljeziQOokQnARApAZAJwLxlgZzTpISGgt42bqodS5OeoJUwCdGhb6 vJPlgd7Xllaf3v7vaKSQvas= =2pnf -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Guess I'm not sure what parms you're looking for. a) All of the possible parms for 2.6.6? b) What was used with the kernel distributed with 9.1? c) None of the above.... I've always built my kernel configs from scratch (gets rid of a lot of stuff you don't need) but I would think you could find a /usr/src/linux/.config someplace or look in /boot for a config-xxxx file which is the .config file used for your version of the distro. If you want to start from scratch, just: cd /usr/src/linux make mrproper make xconfig
