Chris, In the case of an rpm the installation is 'rpm -ihv package.rpm' or 'rpm -Uhv package.rpm' if it is an upgrade. It is wise, however to install the package easy in the a1 set of packages on the first cdrom. (the exact path is /cdrom/suse/a1/easy.rpm). This package builds symbolic links that accomodate the expected locations for rpms and tarballs obtained via downmloads.
