[opensuse] BIOS or Software RAID vs. >15 partitions
Are device mapper & kpartx not employed to make BIOS and software RAID work? If so, it would seem that one at least theoretically could avoid the libata 14 partition limit by just using RAID? The raid device major number is 9, and it appears the limit for the numbers is the "minor", ie, 255. But as the raid is created out of existing partitions... we have the 15 partition limit per disk. But there is another question. I think that a software raid device might be partitioned - but I haven't tried. At least fdisk reads it, but as I say, I haven't tried to create them. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I did some testing with kpartx and some 20 partitions - it works fine, yes. I've also reported my results to the list at least twice. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/ - your spam is our business. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing your posts on the subject, but have had no success myself: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=397816 -- "Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry." Hmm - I think I did my initial tests on 10.3, but I've just tested it again on 11.0rc1 - worked just fine. Mind you, that was with kpartx -126. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

And the disk wasn't otherwise active , it's a secondary (/dev/sdb). /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
