Is there any way I can globally set the top and bottom margins for A4? The top line is too close to the top of the page unless I load it into openoffice and format it. 8.1 Thanks, Steve.

Hi Steve, You should be able to manually modify the margins in the ppd file associated printer. Have a look for the ppd file under /etc/cups/ppd/ In the ppd file search for "*ImageableArea A4/A4:" and alter the numbers following. The numbers are in 1/72ths of an inch and refer to the lower left and upper right of the page. e.g. ImageableArea A4/A4: "14 15 581 827" The left marigin in 14/72", The bottom is 15/72, The size of A4 paper in 1/72" is 595 x 842, so the right margin is (595 - 581) / 72 = 14/72" The top marign is (842 - 827)/72 = 15/72". e.g. ImageableArea A4/A4: "14 15 581 827"

The size of A4 paper in 1/72" is 595 x 842, so
the right margin is (595 - 581) / 72 = 14/72" The top marign is (842 - 827)/72 = 15/72".
Hi Graham That's great. It works with my Epson c70 in color, high, best and photo. The only one which has no effect is the lp draft option. Maybe it is stored in the printer?. Oh, and you have to drop to init 1 and then back up again for the changes to take effect. But I suppose that makes sense. Thanks again, Steve.

Steve, I forgot to mention if you have a look on http://www.linuxprinting.org/ there is some info on adjusting margins via ghostscript headed: Tool/test page to adjust the centering and the margins of PostScript printouts Mon Oct 28 21:30:15 2002 Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

Hi. Thanks. Trying to open any .ps document in 8.1 gives me an error: 'Could not start Ghostscript. This is most likely caused by an incorrectly specified interpreter.' Any ideas anyone? SuSE 8.1

This is the solution I was given. It worked for me! - Start kghostview. Not sure if its in a menu, but from the command prompt: kghostview - Goto Settings --> Configure KGhostView on the menu. - Select GhostScript - Put "gs" in interpreter. - Ok - File --> Quit HTH Keith

Hi, I have a compact flash memory card and a PCMCIA adapter. I used to run SuSE 7.3 and had no problems inserting the card and mounting the CF, but I recently upgraded to SuSE 8.0 and now I get this in the messages log when I insert the card .. socket 0: ATA/IDE Fixed Disk module /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB//pcmcia/ide_cs.o not available executing: 'modprobe -v ide_cs' + /sbin/insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/pcmcia-external/ide_cs.o satellite kernel: ide_cs: Card Services release does not match! + Using /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/pcmcia-external/ide_cs.o + Symbol version prefix '' + /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/pcmcia-external/ide_cs.o: init_module: Operation not permitted + /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/pcmcia-external/ide_cs.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/pcmcia-external/ide_cs.o failed + /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/pcmcia-external/ide_cs.o: insmod ide_cs failed + Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters modprobe exited with status 255 get dev info on socket 0 failed: Resource temporarily unavailable Before I start messing with compiling PCMCIA services and drivers, does anybody know of a simple fix for this? sjb
