Sorry , my numbers were wrong, the problem is with 9.2, worked with 9.1 My floppy is read only, all the time, regardless of floppy or how tab is set Suse 9.2 always sees it a write protected drive currently using this from /etc/fstab: /dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto noauto, user, sync 0 0 orginally I had this in /etc/fstab and only root could mount or umount floppy and most operations attempts gave an error that it was not allowed with protocol drives. /dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss, procuid, nodev, nosuid, sync 0 0 neither works properly anyone know what the fix it- as with my Umaxs 1220s scanner everything worked ok with SuSE 8.0, and 9.1 (BTW: still have problems with the Umax 1220s scanner not working, gave up on that one, can reboot to SuSE 9.1 to use the scanner) thanks in advance

Hi Joe, I saw your earlier post on "9.1" and didn't respond. Here's my fstab entry (9.2) and I'm having no problems with my floppy: /dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss, procuid, nodev, nosuid, sync 0 0 regards, - Carl -- _______________________________________________________________________ C. Thanks to all that replied, after reading all the replies and trying different floppy drives , and old a dos boot I found the problem was in the bios setup. I don't know how it got changed but it did, resetting it to defaults gave me write access to the drive..

I think you're missing the point of subfs. You say 'only root could mount' but the whole idea is that you don't have to mount. Or, rather, it's mounted on demand. Just pop the floppy in and start using it. In 9.1 subfs had some problems, but in 9.2 and 9.3 I haven't had any problems worth mentioning I'm not sure what a 'protocol drive' is. Could you give us the exact error message?

neither works properly
I've got this setup on 9.2 and it works OK read / write: $ ls -l /media | grep floppy drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2005-03-30 12:12 floppy in /etc/fstab: /dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0

My Epson 2450 Photo now works exactly every other time I call upon it ...
thanks in advance

I really like 9.2 better than 9.1, a lot of nice improvements, but never did get the scanner working - it almost works, Yast will find it, install it and Gimp brings up xsane but when I try to scan or acquire preview, it hangs, requiring a re-boot - then the next time around Yast won't even find it. I can live without it for a while but hope they get it fixed. joe
