-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey all.. I posted this in suse-xfree86 and didn't get an answer so I'll try here. I am running an extremely updated suse 9.1. I do not know if this is specific to xorg, because I just learned about it after the switch... here's what's happening.. While at school, on my laptop using wireless. I did a 'X :2 -query XXX.XXX.usf.edu' It came up with the solaras login with no problems. At home on my wireless network (W/ linksys router) I do the same thing and get just a x windows gray screen and it goes off to never never land. I friend of mine says he had the same problem, but when he connected his laptop directly to his cable connection it worked.. Any ideas .. If needed let me know what log/config parts to send and I will.. Thanks.. - -- Adolph & Sharon Weidanz '78 43' Endeavour Ketch S/V Time To Paws -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFBfownlC+PSm9+eB0RAgo9AJ9HnxmVAi4si4y9B3nv1JjMyejQKwCeORcQ VM3nR+MNkwnaXtTTacpJmXU= =/03X -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

You mean you do it with the same address, the usf.edu? Are you sure they accept connections from outside campus? Or do you mean you try it with a different address, a local? If so, are you sure the server is configured correctly?

I did this too with a friend in the USA. We both had our firewalls off, but I could not connect to his PC. Local was (and still is) no problem (X :1 -query 10.0.0.1). I can't remember if he tried to connect to my pc. I'm pretty sure he had his pc configured properly (allow remote X connections, etc.). At that time I used XFree86, but now xorg. Cheers, Leen

Silly me, I just realized You'll need to set up your router to forward tcp port 6002 (for :2, 6001 for :1 and so on) to your workstation, since xdmcp tries to connect to your X server
