HAIL! I have a dialin server! I am using mgetty, auto_ppp and pap authentification! I don't want from the same username to have more than one connection at the same time! is there a way to do this? danke -- kos
Dear SuSE Wizards, Is there a way to search the archives of this list? I have several questions and I would like to see if they have already been asked and answered. I'll ask them anyhow, but if they have been answered, just point me to them or tell me how to search. 1) My system was very peppy at first--quite fast. Now, it seems like it's in slow motion. Is there another way to restart the server other than rebooting? Perhaps an init command? I don't want to take it all the way down if I don't have to. 2) If an intruder places a TCP/IP packet sniffer on a server, is there an easy way to tell this? 3) I tried to install an ipchains based firewall on SuSE 7.3 Linux. The system tells me that this is not supported with this kernel. Did some searching and it looks like I have to recompile the kernel with something like --enable-ipchains. I don't really want to use another firewall other than the one I'm used to configuring. Is there an easy way to add ipchains support to the system? 4) I have an FTP client that attachs to other servers and runs quickly. When I attach to the SuSE server, it acts like it's in slow motion. I think there are at least three FTP packages on the server; wu-ftp, Proftp, and tftp, or something like that. I have the <proftpd> daemon running on the server now, and I can attach but if won't let me copy into a directory that I know I have permissions to. Should I change to a different FTP server? Or, any hints on what to check that might be putting the brakes on my access speed? TIA for any help, Andrew Lietzow The ACL Group, Inc.
