[opensuse] KDE4: No login after latest patches
Hi running OpenSuse 11.0 and KDE4 . Yesterday I updated my KDE4 packages. Since than I can't login into my KDE4 account. Moving the .kde4 directory away didn't make a difference. The file .xsession-errors contains the following: " /etc/X11/xim: Checking whether an input method should be started. /etc/X11/xim: user environment variable LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 sourcing /etc/sysconfig/language to get the value of INPUT_METHOD INPUT_METHOD is not set or empty (no user selected input method). Trying to start a default input method for the locale de_DE.UTF-8 ... There is no default input method for the current locale. Warning: Type "ONE_LEVEL" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols Ignoring extra symbols Warning: No symbols defined for <SYRQ> (keycode 92) ... LOT of warnings snipped Warning: No symbols defined for <K76> (keycode 221) Warning: No symbols defined for <I5E> (keycode 222) Warning: No symbols defined for <I7F> (keycode 255) startkde: Starting up... kdeinit4: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkdeui.so.5: undefined symbol: _ZN7KGlobal12setAllowQuitEb startkde: Could not start kdeinit4. Check your installation." Todays updates make no difference. any hints? hjb -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I got those warnings with a Spanish keyboard.
I don't think, that these warnings are the problem.
Are you using nvidia?

Yes. Yours hjb -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No. I have them too.

Yes.
There are lots of things that don't work with nvidia that I'm finding such as crashes and unstable screens when running openoffice. I doubt nvidia will do anything about it and the issues are only with kde4. To get out of a nonx start, I renamed .kde .kde4 and /etc/xorg.conf and went to sax2, took all the default settings and then typed rckdm start. Another trick I found was to use the nv driver instead. You may want to get a cheap ati card as none of these problems happen on boxes I have with it. Or don't use kde4. No one else here is! Oh, there's an update happening as I write. The 3rd this week. Let's hope that may help us. L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have built in nvidia GeForce 6100 and no recent problems with login. The driver is: nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-default version 173.14.12_2.6.25.11_0.1-0.1 from repositories. -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I am using the same as above with Geforce 7800 GS with no issues except the self inflicted ones but all fixed now! Scarlett -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

So do I and neither do I. I'm sure the OP has tried each and every way and every combination of 173.x.y.z uninstalling, installing from the 173.x.zee.m or whatever it's called.run etc. But it doesn't work for _him_. Like openoffice 4.1 and nvidia don't work for me. Thank you and everyone else for confirming that it is _his_ problem. No one has a clue what his nor my problem is. It's a nvidia issue because it doesn't happen of intel nor ati boxes. But then again why blame it on nvidia as it only happens with kde4 and then only with certain versions of qt. I wish I were a member of the opensuse mailing list so I could say all this. I had the same issue as the original poster. I had tried to update the NVIDIA driver, including editing xorg.conf and xinitrc as recommended by nvidia, and then decided it was not worth it. But in fact, I only commented out the lines in the .xinitrc file (which now only contain one commented line and nothing else. That prevents kdm (and gdm) from logging me in, even though "startx startkde" was working fine. The fix was to remove my .xinitrc Just in case it might be helpful to someone else... regards Emmanuel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
