In this case, you switch to console 1, *with* the bad process still running. You have to log in and wait, loose time...

My favourite is ctrl + Alt + Backspace. One time when I tried clay pigeon shooting (kill -9 id_of_culprit / killall -9 culprit) it took to much time and I lost. ;-( I' ll look into these "magic_keys" sometime... Juergen
