8.2 hardware question - long winded for a simple question, but!
Firstly, i've looked in SuSE's hardware compatability list and this doesn't get a mention using all the search methods, which is why i'm asking on list (no flame). I have a number of Gigabyte FB2CB's on the way. Their intended to be dual boot until a couple of linux applications are stable when another company I provide help for will be able to give m$ the boot. They are small footprint machines and use the Intel 845G/ICH4 Chipset. This contains Intel's 'Intel Extreme Graphics' for video. Intel's site says it's Linux compatable (and even have a redhat driver). Partial info below from: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/linux/graphics.htm --------------------------------------------- Graphics Drivers and Linux* Support Due to the wide variety of Linux* distributions available, Intel has decided to base most of its Linux-based driver information on Red Hat*. Other operating systems, such as FreeBSD* or Solaris*, are not specifically covered here; please refer to your specific vendor if you have questions. It has been Intels intent to make these instructions as generic as possible. Limited support is provided for Linux from Intel. Typically, Intel provides drivers, as applicable, to the major Linux distributions. You should contact your distribution vendor prior to contacting Intel for support. Linux graphics driver availability Download the driver from Download Finder. Linux* drivers for Intel® Extreme Graphics have also been released to major distributions. Future releases of most Linux distributions should contain native Intel Extreme Graphics support. Requirements XFree86 4.2.0 or later Kernel 2.4.11 or later gcc installed kernel header files installed /cut ---------------------------------------------------- Simple question:- Can someone with 8.2 running, please have a look and see if the chipset is mentioned and if the video driver is already there? thanks with butter scsijon
