The Snapper activation is annoying but harmless on an extX system. Since opensuse has chosen btrfs as a default, the activation of snapper occurs by default, but should ignore all filesystems other than btrfs.

I didn't see anything else in the rest of what you posted that points to a culprit for the hard lockups. How old is the MOBO? Have you given the board a look-over for puffy capacitors (they start to look like beer cans left in the freezer too long when they start going south). That type of hardware failure is hard to diagnose otherwise. When a failure occurs, it is rarely logged and the machine just locks. -- David C. - thank you kindly for looking into this : MOBO is about 10 years old : will open-up box to look for puffy capacitors. - wondered as Snapper was last item : just thought maybe snapper forgot to ignore EXT4 file-system - again : many thanks ..... regards -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Sure. I just had to retire my trusty box hostname 'nemesis' that probably first showed on this list in 2003 or so? Solid Abit KT7 with Tbird Athlon processor. Ran from 2002 through 2018 and died with 11.4 still running (serving as a back-office hylafax/avantfax, fileserver). RIP I was going to send it in to badcaps.net (the guy does a great job replacing all capacitors), but I just have it sitting in the bone-pile for now... The sinister thing about bad capacitor lock-ups is you can go a week, maybe two between lockups, but slowly they will become more frequent until finally it goes TITSUP and won't boot at all.
