multiple 3ware cards question
3-ware users: I currently have a SuSE 8.0 box with a 4-port 3ware card working fine. The drives are setup as 2 2-drive mirrors. Since we are hoping to build several identical machines and we want to keep the cost to a minimum, we just bought 2 3ware 2-port cards to replace the 4 port card with. (It is $100 or so cheaper) I don't see any jumpers and nothing in the manuals that talks about how to setup multiple cards in one machine. I was hoping it would just work, but when I boot to the bios and do alt-3 to get into the 3ware bios, it is only showing me one of the cards. As of yet I have not booted into Linux. I'm going slow because I do have some data on the drives. It is not super valuable data, but I don't want to lose it if I can avoid it. Does anyone have any reassurances that it is safe to boot, or other ideas of what I should do for both controllers to show up in the bios. Each card should initialize itself and you should see two sets of 3Ware bios scans as the machine POSTs Once the machine is up, you can select which card you want to tweak using 3DM. - Herman On Wed, 4 Sep 2002, Greg Freemyer wrote: ->3-ware users: -> ->I currently have a SuSE 8.0 box with a 4-port 3ware card working fine. -> ->The drives are setup as 2 2-drive mirrors. -> ->Since we are hoping to build several identical machines and we want to keep the ->cost to a minimum, we just bought 2 3ware 2-port cards to replace the 4 port ->card with.
