[opensuse] Problem with mate-terminal
After updating mate desktop, for a while mate-terminal was working (for about 3 days). This morning it was working too. Now (almost 5 pm) it fails like this: $ mate-terminal mate-terminal: symbol lookup error: mate-terminal: undefined symbol: vte_terminal_set_bold_is_bright Which library is missing that would contain this missing symbol? And why would it suddenly go missing? Thanx -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

vte_terminal_set_bold_is_bright was added to libvte in 0.51.2 while Leap has 0.50. I do not know where your Mate comes from, but it sounds like either your version is not built for Leap or it requires also updated libvte.

Both :-)

Considering that he has packages from Mate and Packman, all at 99 priority, that can be problematic as well. Difficult to predict the mix. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Hi Knurpht, Hmmm... I found this file /etc/zypp/repos.d/http-download.opensuse.org-a1668b3e.repo which is NOT enabled. To wit: [http-download.opensuse.org-a1668b3e] name=openSUSE:Factory enabled=0 autorefresh=0 baseurl=http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/ type=rpm-md keeppackages=0 Should I delete it??? Also, I do not necessarily know what repo the offending packages came from :( :( As root, I ran the zypper command you mention, and now all is well!!! Thank you very very much!!! Yes. But that is not the correct manner to delete a repo. There is a zypper command to do it, and there is a yast module to do it.
Also, I do not necessarily know what repo the offending packages came from :( :(
For that, I gave you a command. If they are still installed, I can give you another command.

Hi Carlos, here is the output below : cat /sdb3/home/jd/zypper.out
I said attach, not paste inside the email. Fortunately the lines did not wrap, so I can use this. You are using two Factory aka Tumbleweed repos. That's the cause of your problems. Did you use one click install? Don't. If you do, read very carefully what it prints, you can not install factory packages on Leap, nor the reverse. Now run: zypper --no-refresh se -s -i-r "openSUSE:Factory" > package.lst You can also do: cat package.lst | sed 's/ *| */,/g' > package.csv Don't post the list. Delete repo 2 and 3, named "openSUSE:Factory". Now update manually your installation, using zypper or yast, to replace *all* the packages that were listed above. reboot. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Hi Carlos, here is the output below : cat /sdb3/home/jd/zypper.out I said attach, not paste inside the email. Fortunately the lines did not wrap, so I can use this.
You are using two Factory aka Tumbleweed repos. That's the cause of your problems.
Did you use one click install? Don't. If you do, read very carefully what it prints, you can not install factory packages on Leap, nor the reverse.
Now run:
zypper --no-refresh se -s -i-r "openSUSE:Factory" > package.lst
You can also do:
cat package.lst | sed 's/ *| */,/g' > package.csv
Don't post the list. Delete repo 2 and 3, named "openSUSE:Factory".
Now update manually your installation, using zypper or yast, to replace *all* the packages that were listed above.
reboot.

Yes, you did that some minutes ago. Too late for this method. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

After updating mate desktop, for a while mate-terminal was working (for about 3 days). This morning it was working too. Now (almost 5 pm) it fails like this:
$ mate-terminal mate-terminal: symbol lookup error: mate-terminal: undefined symbol: vte_terminal_set_bold_is_bright Which library is missing that would contain this missing symbol? And why would it suddenly go missing? You do not say what exact distribution you are running, and how and when and what you updated.
sorry ... Running Leap 15.1-1 with latest updates.
vte_terminal_set_bold_is_bright was added to libvte in 0.51.2 while Leap has 0.50. I do not know where your Mate comes from, but it sounds like either your version is not built for Leap or it requires also updated libvte.
Any other info you need, please let me know. Thanx!!
Thank you Andre The library I have for vte is: $ rpm -qa | grep vte

You should ask at the same place you got your mate "update" from. There are no updates in Leap 15.1. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
