Just upgraded from 9.3 to 10 and have been very impressed. I do have one issue I can not seem to get around. In 9.3, I used dvd::rip quite a bunch to make backups of my child's dvd's before he would distroy them. Now in version 10, I can not get it installed do to it saying perl is not installed. It says it can not find perl 5.8.6 nor perl-gtk. I check in yast and perl 5.8.75 is installed, but I do not see perl-gtk listed. I am using the packman and guru yast sources along with the 5 cd's. Any way to get the program working with suse 10 or where I can find the packages to install? Thanks in advance Rob

Have you entered them in YAST as INstallation sources, or do you download each file? Maybe you could try apt, but Im not sure if there is a working version yet. Those who know please answer ....now. OJ -- Wise men don't need advice. Fools don't take it. (Benjamin Franklin)
I was able to get it working with a little bit of this and that finally. I
added the edge source in yast to get perl-gtk installed:
http://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-edge/inst-source/
once that was installed, I was able to choose the videodvd from packman in
yast and it installed.
upon trying to run it, it would pop up and disappear. So I ran it from a
terminal and it was complaining about missing:
Can't locate Locale/TextDomain.pm in @INC
I used mcpan and installed the Bundle::CPAN and Locale::TextDomain.
After that, the program fired right up. I have not tested copying a dvd yet
as I am not at home and doing all this via remote desktop. But it looks like
it is working now.

What kind of support can us Centrino users expect with Suse Linux 10? Mandriva claims to be the only Linux distribution certified for Centrino. I read in the changelogs that Suse Linux 10 will have better support for Centrino, but has anyone tested to what degree support exists?
I've heard that there are several versions of Suse Linux 10. There's an open source version which does not contain stuff like Adobe Reader and some drivers. But the retail version contains these things. Is there a free version that also contains non-open source software? Or are these reserved for paying customers?

Or if you only want the popular plugins (Flash, Real, Adobe) - they all do RPM versions that you can install, links are in my blog for 3rd Oct, along with a little[1] package that will set them up for Moz/Firefox for you. I think people are sooo happy about SUSE 10 GM that it's making them heady and drunk, just by thinking about SUSE 10 GM, holding it in their hands, exploring it with their fingers etc etc etc ... Sound like something we know? ;)

Gold Master. When companies distribute boxed versions of their products, they send the master copy to the printers in a gold plated disc or whatever. So this is called a Gold Master. In the present context for us people who download the CD/DVD image(s) it means nothing more than "final release" - that is to say, no more 10.0 releases will you have. Next release will be 10.1. 10.1 alpha is already out, incidentally. S:R)
Gold Master - is the distribution that gets printed on the cds/dvds... the frozen and final release... 10.0 :) Daniel Markus Heidinger wrote:

I guess most people are just not aware about mail clients and threaded view. The "normal" user let's his mailclient, be it thunderbird or something else, in standard view, just ordering the mails by either subject or date. BUT: you're absolutely right: threaded view is really powerful. Greetings Dominique

I had the same after entering them as an instaltion source. My guestimate is that it either is looking for things that are not (yet) on the mirror I use or that the 10.0 is slightely different and both packman and guru need to rebuild their repo's. houghi -- Quote correct (NL) http://www.briachons.org/art/quote/ Zitiere richtig (DE) http://www.afaik.de/usenet/faq/zitieren Quote correctly (EN) http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html

I would have to agree that they need to rebuild their repos, when i try to get packages for x86_64 it gives me i586 packages, which i don't want. so Packman folks if you are out there please update your packages on your repos so that we can all benefit.
