[opensuse] latex on 10.3
I'm having some problems using latex. I removed everything and then reinstalled from scratch. After it installs the latex executable is located in /usr/lib/texmf/bin/i586-linux/. When I execute I get the following
/usr/lib/texmf/bin/i586-linux/latex file.tex This is pdfTeX, Version 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6) kpathsea: Running mktexfmt latex.fmt fmtutil: format directory `/var/lib/texmf/web2c' is not writable. I can't find the format file `latex.fmt'!
I did run texhash (as superuser) but it didn't fix anything. Anyone has any idea what the problem could be? Thanks, a -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If the directory "/var/lib/texmf/web2c" is not present, try to install "texlive-2007-69" and "xmltex-2007.8.1-23". Do you have this packages installed?

On my 64bit Suse 10.3 machine I had trouble with Latex in a similar way after installation. Seemed to be partially fixed by running Latex as root once. Just one of a small collection of oddities for x86_64 installation. ==John ffitch -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That was it. I installed the two packages and then ran texhash as root and it is now working. Thanks for your help. Alain -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
