You have to include some more information: what kind of mail account (pop, IMAP?), how did you configure it and what program are you using to fetch it???

OK, if you have set that up, let's assume you have a mail account in a POP3 mail server. Are you using any program (fetchmail) to get the email from the POP3? I would recommend you the mail-howto. Sergio A las 01:26 del 03 de Oct de 2003, pseep@mail.gr dijo:

It's a little backwards - you would need to set it up in the firewall if you were running a mail server and wanted others to be able to download mail from you. Why don't you use something a little newer and user friendly to set up, like evolution or kmail? If you start evolution there will be a nice wizard to guide you along in your mail setup. No need at all to do anything to your firewall.

Of course not...
Why that?
I think you have your concepts quite mixed up. You do not need to open the pop3 port in the firewall (nor _any_ other port) unless you are setting up a mail server for other people, so that they connect to you to receive their email. In order to get mail, you need to setup a program that gets the email from your ISP (that is, mail.gr). If you are using Pine (like I do) then you can configure it to receive mail from IMAP servers; if your account is a POP3 mail account, then you need to setup fetchmail as well. Yast can do that for you (SuSE 8.2), or you can do that manually --> meaning, read the manual(s). Or, you can use one of the integrated solutions; for example, mozilla, kmail, evolution... they will be easier to setup for you. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
