[opensuse] Black Screen
Hi, I did a zypper up from konsole and after the next time I started my laptop the screen only boots to a black screen with the touchpad pointer visible. I tried to go into runlevel 3 at bootup, and did a zypper dup to see if it would fix the problem, but no. I next tried to boot into icewm and used yast to reinstall the nvidia nouveau driver, but that didn't fix the problem either. What do I need to do to get the desktop to boot in kde 4.7, with the installed OpenSuse 11.4? I see the same black screen correctable by <shift><alt><f12>, but see no update. looks like "zypper in --force 'libqt4 = 4.7.3-20.1' is the correct answer and zypper al libqt4 until there is a fix. or run w/o desktop effects until there is a fix. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

From the KDE list:
Hi everyone affected please try libqt4 packages from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/namtrac:/branches:/KDE:/Qt/o penSUSE_11.4/
Thanx a lot! It fixes the black screen bug for KDE:/Release:/47/ just fine. Also according to that list, the updates are uploaded. -- Linux User 183145 using LXDE and KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 11.4 (i586) Kernel: 3.1.0-rc5-1-desktop LXDE WM & KDE Development Platform: 4.7.1 (4.7.1) 11:40am up 0:08, 3 users, load average: 3.91, 4.69, 2.64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi, I added the repo and updated, that fixed the problem and I can now boot to desktop. Just a note, when I first added the repo, I didn't notice that the url rapped onto the next line of the email. The incorrect repo url that I tried to add ended up named as a service and didn't appear in the repo list. However, it wouldn't let me update until I found it as a service and deleted it in yast. That was even with the correct url for the repo added. Without the bling is how I always run. I have /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-composite.conf in 11.3, 11.4 & 12.1 containing: Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Disable" EndSection which works regardless which DTE I run. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
