Subject: Re: [SLE] tips and information for SMP experience
Hi,
Hi all,
** I'd like to experience double processor intel 800 MHz
** I have already one 800 in my machine and would like to buy another one.
** Any suggestion for a mainboard matching the followings ?
** 1. linux supported ( suse 7)
** 2. dual 800 Mhz
** 3. Geforce 64 Mb Ultra ( I remember having a lot of problem with Via
Apollo Pro
** chipset for setting up a geforce 32 Mb )
** 4. Rimm memory 258 M // 400MHz supported.
A few things:-
1/ Wait for the Abit VP6 m/b and see. Dual-coppermine with
ATA100, AGP 4x, PC133. They're cheap too and have RAID
level 0/1 support off the ATA100 controller (the RAID wont
work in Linux yet).
2/ Alternatively buy an Intel OR40 board if you have the
cash.
3/ Sod Rimms. PC133 outperforms these systems in most
circumstances (don't ask me why but my PC133 based
i815 setup is 5% faster than an 820/RIMM setup with
the same processor!!!!!!)
Hang it out too as Intel prices will drop out just after
Christmas so this set up wont cost a fortune. They'll be
pushing P4 sales then, so the P3 will be cheaper (another 800
will drop to about ~£130 - you'll have to convert to Euros :)
