Mike, I have solved the problem! This is what i did... I update (reinstall) some files from the cd with Yast, these files are for Yast2. I use apt-get and synaptic to, there i found these files, the are all for yast. Here a list off theme; yast2 yast2 controle-center glibc mesasoft xfree86-libs expat freetype2 libgcc libpng qt3 libstdc++ zlib bash perl ncurses Hope it works for you to. Let me now. Found it! It's the update off QT3 from 3.1.1-62 to 3.1.2-21 That is the problem with yast2 and the cancel option that is hanging. Going back to QT3 3.1.1-62 solves the problem. GJ Eldering Op woensdag 30 april 2003 11:12, schreef Gerrit Jan Eldering:

Gerrit Now you have solved my problem. I have been using apt-get and have done an apt-get upgrade. It was after that I had the problem. For various reasons I reinstaled 8.2 and apt, but this time I have only used synaptic to update packages that I've had trouble with and not done a full upgrade. After reading your first post I fired up Synaptic and found that I still had the ealier qt package. A quick mess with yast2 now and I can get to the bandon all changes box and it now works. Lessons : apt will take care of dependencies but will not guarantee the effects of installing them. ie if one of the packages breaks things you won't know until afterwards. Which is the problem with the SuSE apt, ie who checks the packages ? In Debian as I understand it you can choose stable, unstable, testing etc. moral : be very careful using SuSE apt. Thanks for your help. Mike

In this (kde) case all pkgs come from suse: linux01:6 20:47:46 /ftp/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.2-i386/base $ zgrep qt3\; contlist.bz2 qt3;3.1.2-21;i586;kde qt3;3.1.2-26;i586;suse-people 8.1 has some more: linux01:6 20:47:02 /ftp/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.1-i386/base $ cd qt3;3.0.5-88;i586;base qt3;3.0.5-92;i586;update qt3;3.1.1-15;i586;kde3-stable qt3;3.1.1-64;i586;xfree86 qt3;3.1.2-6;i586;kde qt3;3.1.2-6;i586;kde3-stable Perhaps the new newer 3.1.2-26 solves the problem from 3.1.2-21 (suse-people provide pkgs from sue employees that are not officially released). -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

For what it is worth, I have the same problem with two of three of my upgraded machines. Used apt-get / synaptic to upgrade to 3.1.2-26 and got past the initial problem but after selecting several new packages to install, it burped and went back into the F'dUp mode. It took the skull 'n Crossbones to kill it. I havent had the courage to try again! I wonder what may break by going b ack to the 3.1.1- version. Richard
