Just installed (fresh) 11.3 x64 / KDE on new hardware - Core i5/4gb. The background of the main panel doesn't seem to have picked up a proper background - is just grey/striped. Don't recall that as being normal.... How can I configure it? Thanks, John.
Just guessing... you've got desktop effects switched off? If they are off you get a solid or partially striped panel background (depending on the desktop theme). If it's on, you get a semi-transparent or completely transparent panel.

Hmmm, possibility... will check when I get home (as I said, fresh install, so maybe desktop effects isn't on...) Thanks, John. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If I recall when I did a fresh install many moons ago (I've overdue for an upgrade) I had to turn on the effects once I installed the nvidia drivers. I don't think they go on by default.

If you do want to change the panel background to something else besides the default openSUSE Air theme, you can change the panel background by changing the desktop theme overall (this gives a consistent look and theme) with Configure Desktop-> Appearance -> Workspace (in KDE 4.4). You can also mix and match theme elements such as the panel background with the semi-hidden option 'Desktop Theme Details' (kcmshell4 desktopthemedetails). That module was experimental in kde 4.4, in 4.5 it has been merged into the Details tab of the Desktop Theme module, so use # kcmshell4 desktoptheme Will -- Will Stephenson, KDE Developer, openSUSE Boosters Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH - Nürnberg - AG Nürnberg - HRB 16746 - GF: Markus Rex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
