Printing to a CUPS printer over network.
Hi all! I have a HP LJ 4L on my server using CUPS. Tried printing to it from Windows, Works like a dream! So does local printing from the server. But i am at a loss on how to print to it from my Linux workstation... I have read the manuals (Sysadmin and Users guides) but i canr for my life find the right setting... Can anyone help me? The mashines are: server.private.home <192.168.0.250> (The printserver) rikjoh.private.home <192.168.0.3> (The workstation) The printer on the server is "lp" If anyone know this.. Please help, its the final hurdle to 100% Linux -- /Rikard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rikard Johnels email : rjhn@linux.nu mob : +46 70 464 99 39 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, Firstly on all workstations in /etc/hosts file you enter the full name of the server i.e. 192.168.0.250 rikjoh.private.home rikjoh You have to setup the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf on your server and make sure 1) Enter under ServerName your full server name ServerName server.private.home 2) Under Browser Options set the following Browsing On BrowseAddress 192.168.0.255 BrowseAllow 192.168.0.* 3) Under Security Options set the following <Location /> Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 192.168.0.* </Location> Once you have set this up on the server restart cups /etc/init.d/cups restart On each of your Workstations edit /etc/cups/client.conf and set your server name ServerName server.private.home All the printers on the server should now appear on all your workstations without any more configuration. Hope I haven't missed anything. Regards, Graham Smith ----------------------------------------
