A few days ago I decided to try and compile some KDE2 specific apps. I kept running into crossfooting problems qt and kde libraries. So, since KDE is moving to qt-2.x I decided to remove kde and qt-1.x from my box. After having done so I noticed that KDEDIR was still /opt/kde and QTDIR was still /usr/lib/qt (which used to point to qt-1.x but which I have redirected to qt-2.2.2). I checked boot.local, /etc/profile, /etc/profile.local, and the .bashrc files. No joy. A search for 'profile' revealed one setting in the /etc/SuSEConfig directory. THAT is where the KDEDIR=/opt/kde and QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt were being set. BUT, the header warning says NOT to change any of the vars in there but to change them in /etc/rc.config. I WISH I COULD. It seems that rc.config does NOT contain the KDEDIR and QTDIR vars. So, I'm setting them in profile.local and/or .bashrc, but if the header warning says to set a var in another script then that var should be in that script. JLK
