I just upgraded from 8.1 to 9.3 and my screen saver no longer works. When I test the screen saver, it looks fine, but it just never comes on. Any help greatly appreciated. Greg Wallace

That is too big of a leap for update. Do a clean install. Then in desktop check appearcnces / screensaver in kde you right click in the desktop in gnome its under control center. -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/

I found two screen saver modules and re-installed both of them. I re-set the screensaver by right-clicking desktop, navigating to screensaver, and setting all of the options. I test it and it looks good, but it still doesn't come on. I think it's not working because my desktop image freezes before the screen saver can start. I need to find out how to disable the desktop image freezing (where you have to move the mouse or hit a key for the desktop to refresh). Thanks, Greg Wallace

Duh, what's that? By the way, I have actually made some headway on this problem. I switched to one of the GNU screensavers and it actually kicks off (looks like the old screen saver I was using won't work in 9.3, even though it seems to test out ok from setup). However, after some short length of time, the monitor shuts down anyway. No error message in log. I suspect something running on a timer is doing this. Maybe it is screen lock, whatever that is. I looked in "Configure Desktop" and didn't find anywhere to set that option. I even tried looking in the Suse Help Center, but I couldn't get a find command to work in there. Looks like there's also some glitch in that too. I've always had problems getting that to do searches, though I could usually get it to work after multiple tries. I even tried searching for a word that was sitting right on the screen that was up at the time. It wouldn't find it. Thanks, Greg Wallace

Well, I finally got the help to work. The "find" button on the menu bar works. The "Search" in the body of menu doesn't. I loaded every help topic in the index and searched for "lock". No hits. Greg Wallace

As i remember in the master screen savers list there is a timer to blank the screen after some time. I have one of those EPA marked monitors which has its own shutdown timer in hardware. Do you see the EPA logo when booting your system on the monitor while the bios is comming up? -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/

Carl: This turned out to be a Powersave problem. I just resolved it last night. This is posted under another thread called "powersave problem". Thanks, Greg Wallace
