[opensuse] Minor issues
I have a couple of minor issues that irritate me with kde4. Does anyone know how to globally switch off grouping on the taskbar. One can do it on a temporary basis with individual programs but this is tedious. I like to see everything on the taskbar and not have to click to find out what I've got and where it is. Another thing is the virtual desktops. One can name them but there seems to be no way to display the name. So what's the point? I hate to say this (but not really :-) ) but I did not have these problems in KDE3 and annoys me that these functions which allow individuals to personalise their desktop has been removed. Not wanting to start a flame war or whatever but would be grateful if someone in the know can explain to me how I can accomplish these two little tasks. Many thanks. Right click on empty space in taskbar -> Task Manager settings -> Grouping & Sorting set to "Do Not Group"

Right-click on the pager -> Configure Virtual Desktops -> Switching -> check "Desktop Switch On Screen Display". Now whenever you switch desktops a little OSD appears with the desktop name that you previously set. There may be other places where it is used too.

Why jump to the conclusion that because they are not in the exact same place with the same wording as KDE3, they have been removed? Regards, Tejas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I believe that is: Right-click on the pager -> Pager Settings -> Configure Desktops Then change the default names in the windows and click "apply" ... at least that worked for me ! good luck Regis -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks guys! I thought that I had tried these things already but obviously not. So I guess the fault lies with me. However, the displaying of the names doesn't work (i.e. I can't see the desktop names, even though I have set the option as suggested) but then again maybe I've missed something else. You are right, what I was talking about is a KDE4.4 feature. Some more experimentation shows that in KDE4.3 Right-click on pager -> Pager settings -> Display text -> selecting "Desktop Name" or "Desktop Number" does work, but not if the pager is too small. Unlock the panel, make the panel height really large and it becomes visible. Also it is quite faint (grey on grey) in the default theme. Hope this helps Regards, Tejas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Tejas You are absolutely correct. Wouldn't it be helpful if one was able to change the font colour or something (without having to change the entire theme)?
