Add keycode 0x60 = udiaeresis Udiaeresis to ~/.Xmodmap to bind the `ü' to F12 and `Ü' to Shift-F12 or keycode 0x1E = u U udiaeresis Udiaeresis for `ü' on AltGr-u and `Ü' on Shift-AltGr-u. 1. Why doesn't LOS99 include a startup diskette? How will people install if they don't have DOS, Win95 or a bootable CDROM-drive? 2. Can it run in 32 MB of RAM? The box says minimum 16MB, but that doesn't sound realistic. What is the most realistic number? - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Because it assumes you already have an Linux Operating System. The SuSE Linux contained is just an add-on. I'm sure Oracle, Informix, StarOffice and other applications are shipped without boot disk, too.

Depends on what you're doing. 32MB are sufficient, but having more RAM is better, of course ;-) -o) Hubert Mantel Goodbye, dots... /\\ _\_v - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
I have a dial-in account at my university. I can put a "link" to an ftp site on my desktop (using KDE), but how do I make it take my name and password so that it puts me in my directory. In other words, when I ftp there, I am just on the ftp server, whereas if I Xftp there, say, I am in my own personal directory. The server where our accounts are is different than the FTp server, no? You have to include login and password in the URL: <A HREF="password@ftp.server.edu">ftp://login:password@ftp.server.edu</A>">password@ftp.server.edu</A">ftp://login:password@ftp.server.edu</A</A>> Ciao, Stefan - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Hi guys I downlaoded crisp (the brief like editor) It runs fine under the Console mode w/o X Funtions keys all work. under X when I run crisp F1 shows ^[[[A or some weird escape sequence. I know its something with Xmodmap -- its standard SuSE 5.3 setup. under KDE 1.0 any idea how to fix it w/o breaking something else?? I'm sorry to say, but that doesn't make sense at all. You make a parcel with Applixware and add Linux. Why do you suppose the buyers will have another Linux in advance?
I'm sure Oracle, Informix, StarOffice and other applications are shipped without boot disk, too.
But these are not operating systems. Linux is. It is provided in Linux Office Suite 99. That's the difference. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Yes, but you can create the disk from the CD, but as you said earlier, must be able to read the CD in the first place.

If you buy staroffice for Win, they won't give you a WinXX with that either. Linux is free and a CD *very* spacey. With the above said, you are ready to start. Maybe a leaflet with instructions would help further. I think the other thing is that most applications come with a standard installer program that one can launch from within the operating system that is supporting the software. The office99 cd jacket really did not contain any instructions about installation. I was a mite confused what to do with all the stuff at first also. I think SuSE needs to think over how it bundles a comprehensive suite of applications and offer some approach like applix which is a setup script that does the same thing but allows the user to know what is needed when he or she opens the jewel case. Yast is a fine tool but there could be a data hook to yast which would launch it in a custom way. The way software is bundled has an effect on how people will perceive its utility. Informational resources are quite important when a person is installing a productivity suite. I think including two SuSE 5.3 books and a generic applix office book may not be the best marketing decision when you have a cd rom or three filled with applications. How about cutting the extra SuSE book out and including a flyer on detailed installation instructions? -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I used yast to install the components from the Office 99 cd. My system is a P166 classic with 80mb of memory. Applix is pretty snappy on that system. I would have to be honest and say that 32mb may be somewhat slow. I think though that the applix applications are somewhat designed for modularity and may be good at stretching threads out. I used to use an OS/2 word processor called DeScribe that did the same. It spun threads out for several processes like printing, spellchecking, etc. I dont believe you need a bootable diskette if you have a working linux system. Just run yast with the Office 99 cd in place. I assume that all the packages on the Office 99 cd are in rpm format; so other ways would work as well. I would like to pitch to SuSE that they consider a installation routine that would make use of yast for Office 99. Perhaps running a setup script would launch yast or something? You could include on the cd label, please run setup on the cd disk 1. -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
