Good Morning/ Afternoon/what-ever everybody, I have 7.3 installed, yes I do not install every version, and have problems with xfig. 7.3 seems only to know TimesRoman(for example) up to a size of 14pt. All bigger sizes are mapped down. I know that it is primary connected to the XFree fonts. I toyed around with the fontinstaller and even with something with "ms" in its name. Yes I am really desperate. Does anybody else have this experience. Does anybody even know a solution? That would be really great. Thanks in advance. Steffen ... _...
I don't have a solution, unfortunately, but it seems that this is only an issue with the on-screen display. If you export a figure, as postscript for example, the font type and size are correct. Kavau --- Steffen Brinckmann <S.Brinckmann@phys.rug.nl> wrote:

I would like to install some Postscript Type 1 fonts that I have on a Mac in SuSE Linux 8.0 on an HP OmniBook laptop. I have moved the files over to the Linux system (named mu)... mu:/usr/local/fonts # ls -l total 576 drwxr-xr-x 2 root users 4096 Aug 31 10:46 . drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 Aug 31 10:46 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 107904 Aug 31 2002 CasloAnt.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 102400 Aug 31 2002 CasloAntIta.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 42368 Aug 31 10:05 Caslon Antique.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 28288 Aug 31 10:05 GoudyHun.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 16768 Aug 31 10:05 GoudyHundred.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 20608 Aug 31 10:05 Herme.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 17280 Aug 31 10:05 Hermetica.bmap.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 120064 Aug 31 10:05 PapyrICG.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 39296 Aug 31 10:05 Papyrus ICG.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 31488 Aug 31 10:05 SerifCor.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root users 18176 Aug 31 10:05 SerifCorrosion.bmap.bin mu:/usr/local/fonts # what do I need to do next, in order to get them useable by the system? -- R o b T o w robtow@tauzero.com www.tauzero.com/Rob_Tow (408)-829-7407 * * his sword for hire * another faithless lord left, * the ronin walks on *
Hi. I needed the Goudy fonts recently too. They are all available as .ttf's. Just stick them into /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype. I got mine from an old corel draw cd but they are available on google too. The crashintosh type-1's don't work out of the box (what does from apple these days?) because you need the .afm and .pfa or .pfb If you get stuck I'll send you the ttf's personally. kde 3.0.3 picks them up without doing anything. what do I need to do next, in order to get them useable by the system?

I'm no expert on this, but this might shed some light on the issue: Xfig only uses the installed Type 1 fonts, i.e. no truetype fonts. There is just a limited number of screen font sizes, but the printed output will be OK, I believe. Now start xfontsel and in "fmly" (the second entry) choose "Times". Then in "pxlsz" (7th entry) you see that among the screen font sizes you can select, 34 (not 14) is the biggest. This command shows the 8 available times-34 fonts: xlsfonts | grep times | grep 34- SH

All what you said is true. xfontsel show the largest font being 34. BUT: Now the Questions. Why does XFIG not use them. The larges he/she displays on the screen is 14pt? Where can I get more font sizes? ... _...
