[Fwd: [SLE] Ogle DVD - Solved with many thanks to all helped :)]
I finally solved all the issues on Ogle, many thanks to everyone helped me in this. :) Yes, Karol you're right, the DMA is off for the DVD drive, and managed to turn it on with Yast under 'IDE' entry. I added the hdd=ide-cd to grub.conf as well to make the DVD drive work under IDE mode, and removed all I have added previously, and done with a happy DVD working system now. :) Thank you to all, and stay cool man :) Dennis
Do you have DMA enabled on your DVD drive? [This is the most common cause of skippy DVD playback.] e.g.,
# cat /var/log/boot.msg | grep -i hdc <4> ide1: BM-DMA at 0xe008-0xe00f, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio <4>hdc: Pioneer DVD-ROM ATAPIModel DVD-106S 012, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive # hdparm -d /dev/hdc
/dev/hdc: using_dma = 1 (on) #

Great!

Actually, if you want -even- smoother DVD playback, disable double-buffering for XV. (You'll need the xvattr utility: my RPMs at http://suserpm.sf.net or 'apt-get install xvattr'). # xvattr -a XV_DOUBLE_BUFFER -v 0 I noticed a significant improvement in picture smoothness while playing DVDs.
Thank you to all, and stay cool man :)
