OpenSuse 11.1 on Dell XPS 1330 /dev/sda1 - 50 GB, NTFS /dev/sda2 - 50 GB, XFS mounted as / /dev/sda3 - 132 GB, XFS mounted as /saved I have 4 GB of RAM, so I didn't create a swap partition. Everything is working well, NVIDIA repository for 11.1 already available My only problem was Sun's JRE 1.6u11; there was a jexec service that was preventing system from booting completely. Put on the pressure upstream. They're generally Intel bugs, not SUSE bugs: http://tinyurl.com/3w66yf -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Intel video bug. Blatant plug: novell bugzilla 445320 We've been fighting this one since 11.1 rc1 Not everyone has up to date video cards. I'm struggling with 20 Dell GC260's with intel i845. I really do think opensuse should help us get this bug fixed. The video worked fine in 11.0. In 11.1 it depends on a workaround which renders the graphics so slow as to be un usable L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Wrong bug! That bug is about installation, nothing whatsoever to do with poor performance.
We've been fighting this one since 11.1 rc1
445320 is 5 weeks old, but the upstream dependent performance trouble is several weeks older at least. -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." This is what I've had with the i965 chipset, not just for myself, but a LOT of clients have Dells, and other makes, with this chipset! There's NO WAY I was going to upgrade these with 11.1 without it being fixed. NOW, I get almost 500 frames per sec. in glxgears....HUGE improvement. So, whatever fix there is in the GA release, it did fix the performance problem on that chipset at least. Note: you MUST do an update the way I've laid it out in another post to get the "fix" for these chipsets. [snip] Once you install 11.1, then define repositories you're going to use, then do an online update....make sure you use the option in Yast of "Package," then "All Packages," and finally, "Update if newer version available." Once done, reboot, and you should have your video problems solved. On that laptop, once I did the initial upgrade, I setup the repositories, then did an update.....MANY files, and to my amazement, the Intel video problem is MOSTLY fixed! At least now acceleration is good and all but 1 openGL screen saver works perfectly. Now, BOTH this desktop and the laptop performance, over all performance, ISN'T as good as 10.3 nor 11.0. Both take longer to get to a login prompt, accessing files, time for apps. to load, etc., are all visibly longer.
