Hi all, I just installed 9.2 for the first time. All is fine, except for one small problem - when trying to start courier-authdaemon, I get: sigaar:/home/hans # /etc/init.d/courier-authdaemon start Starting Courier Authentication Daemon (plain) Error: authdaemond no longer handles its own daemonizing. Use new startup script. startproc: exit status of parent of /usr/lib/courier-imap/authlib/authdaemond.plain: 1 failed I read through the changelog (4mb odd file) and release notes, didn't find anything useful on google either. Has anybody seen this? Thanks -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za

It must be because Imap is working through inetd or xinetd, take a look at /etc/xinetd.d/imap, enable/disable what you need, then 'rcxinetd restart' Good Luck!

I checked - /etc/xinetd.d/imap doesn't even exist on my box. I took an rpm -ql of courier-imap, removed it, and made sure I delete all the conf files by hand. I figured something might have gotten corrupt. Reinstalled by hand - no luck, I still get the same error. -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za

Well I have to retract what i said, because courier is a standalone server an doesnt rely on xinetd or inetd to work. Did you try /etc/init.d/courier-imap start or /etc/init.d/courer-pop3 start ?

Yes, that's what I usually do. I don't use pop3 though, but either ways, if you start either courier-pop3 or courier-imap, it first starts courier-authdaemon. I'll see tonight if installing the courier rpm from SUSE 9.1 will work, but I'm still curious as to why this is happening and how to fix it. Almost every server we put out runs courier.... I installed the courier-imap from SUSE 9.1, and it works beautifully. So I guess there must be a problem with the courier shipping with 9.2? -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za
