[opensuse] problem with numlock
Hello, since some days (may be a week), my laptop under 13.1 boots with numlock on. As it don't have numeric pad, this makes typing passwd difficult (I have to deactivate numlock first). I never had this before, neither with this computer. Yast is on no numlock as is kde4. The problem is on kdm. what may I look for? thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You haven't done an update or reset of the BIOS in the last few days? My own laptop has BIOS settings that, for instance, allow num-lock to light up, but still require holding the Fn key to type numbers, amongst other settings. Otherwise, are you telling me you don't believe in the numlock fairy who comes along in the middle of the night? Try leaving the Windows key under your pillow. not that I'm aware off, and I don't find any relevant option in my bios

jdd On that case you could check System Settings->(Hardware) Input Devices->Keyboard Settings Hardware Tab. There is a Check Radio button for NumLock on KDE Startup section. Most probably you would have it "Turn on", "Turn off" or "Leave unchaged" options. So switch it to desired option.

of course, I did the computer is an asus s400c. I see nothing in the bios relative to the num keys (uefi bios) Windows boots without the problem (I have the same passwd on windows and linux) the kde option is on "no numlock", i see no such option in kdm (aka login, opensuse theme) same option alos set at "no numlock" in yast I even tried to activate numlock in kde config, with no more result. Whatever is the kde config option "activated" or "not activated", the num keypad is activated as soon as I close the kde session. and this is recent, I didn't have this say a month ago thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

# egrep -i num /etc/sysconfig/keyboard # NumLock on? ("yes" or "no" or empty or "bios" for BIOS setting) KBD_NUMLOCK="yes" # what YaST should be setting What's yours set to? # egrep -i lock kdmrc | egrep -i num # What to do with the Num Lock modifier for the time the greeter is running: NumLock=On # probably control belongs in personal settings -> login manager, but I don't think you'll find it there, and will have to edit kdmrc yourself, if you can find it What's yours set to (in whatever non-intuitive location is home to your kdmrc)? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." I did two things, from lines in the openSUSE forum, don't know which do the trick... * in /usr/share/kde4/config/kdm/kdmrc add Numlock=off. There where no Numlock option listed there previously - this may not survive an update * changed in Yast/sysconfig editor/hardware/keyboard KBD_NUMLOCK from bios to off - curious it was not triggered by the option in other yast menus (that is keyboard config) thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
