Hi, I have problem with mounting Windows sharing. For that I am using linneighborhood. When i try to mount I get error: Can't resolve address. linneighborhood is 0.6.5 version, samba-client is 3.0.7-1.1. How I can investigate problem to get all working OK? -- AV SuSE 9.1 Pro RLU #128180
I did a quick search on google after having a similar problem and found this: There is a bug in LinNeighborhood 0.6.5 where it sends the 'ip=' parameter to the smbmount tool on mounting even if there is no IP address known. Samba 3 tools don't accept this empty parameter and this error occurs on mounting. Patrich Monnerat has sent a patch to version 0.6.5 to avoid this problem. Thanks to Patrick. (link: http://www.bnro.de/~schmidjo/download/index.html) How to install the patch: * Untar the LinNeighborhood 0.6.5 source package * Copy this patch into the newly created LinNeighborhood-0.6.5 directory * cd to this directory * Invoke patch -p1 < LinNeighborhood-0.6.5-samba3.patch inside this directory, it will change the smbmount.c file * GNU like ./configure; make; make install Olusola Fadero --------------------------------------------------------- Trouble at work? www.jfo.org.uk http://www.jfo.org.uk -----Original Message----- From: AV [mailto:mdk@freemail.lt] Sent: 22 October 2004 21:47 To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] Samba - SuSE 9.1 Hi, I have problem with mounting Windows sharing. Well, I use another program "smb4k". I can not mount with it to. I get "An error occurred while trying to mount the share!" smbmnt must be installed suid root for direct user mounts (1000,1000) smbmnt failed: 1 Could it be something wrong with samba-client? -- AV SuSE 9.1 Pro RLU #128180

smbmnt failed: 1
smbmnt and smbumount need root privileges, so to be able to mount and unmount samba shares as a normal user you will have to set the suid bit on both programs. They reside normally in /usr/bin ('which smbmnt') and are owned by root. So, setting the suid bit, the programs will be run as if by root, even if you execute them as a normal user. Just do (as root): 'chmod +s /usr/bin/smbmnt' and 'chmod +s /usr/bin/smbumount'. You will be able to easily mount and unmount samba shares using smb4k, and mounted shares can be opened in Konqueror by one click. I like smb4k a lot! -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Thank you! That worked perfectly! -- AV SuSE 9.1 Pro RLU #128180
