Hello. The only reference to Compaq servers in the SDB is http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/tsieden_cpq-maint-partition.html. 'Proliant' and '1600' both return nothing. My installation does not even get to the point that the aforementioned article starts at. If I do a Google search, there are a few posts on SLE that refer to the problem, but it appears that an answer was never found. The RAID card is a SmartArray221. What is the spec of your 1600 ? Stuart.

My problem isn't that I can't get Linux to install, it's that I can't get a RECENT distro to install. I would like to know what changed in the last couple of years that cripples newer distros on this machine, when older distros work just fine.
Bye for now, Stuart.
<snip> are u using the smartstart CD for installation? This makes it so much

did you look on the knowledge base on suse's website? I recall a few articles on there concerning installing the new versions of suse on compaq machines I've installed rh7.3 and 8 on proliant 1600 with no problems...even SCO 5.0.5! Both recent suse versions also worked fine. How is the hardware setup? any funky arrangements? Mine were IDE cdrom and scsi HD's or the compaq scsi array......both installed perfect. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

one had a compaq smartarray..the other was just 3 9gb scsi HD's...I set them up using software raid. Like I said..I didn't get any problems...but the hardware was setup according to compaq specs. I really don't know what else I could tell you that might help... Sorry :( oskar
