[SLE] Fwd: Re: [SLE] installing 7.0 from DVD
I'm curious to know if you can boot data DVDs, such as the SuSE Install DVD, in both standard DVD-ROM readers /and/ DVD-RAMs?

Is the dvd bootable .... I booted from the floppy but my system doesn't see my DVD even though it sees my scsi card .. my dvd drive is a creative dvd-ram ... I can see all the files on the dvd when i am in windows ... is there a special driver that I need to install from the dvd .. I have a gateway select 1000 .. 1ghz athlon .. 192 mb ram .. 3 harddrives .. 46 .. 45 .. 10 gigs .. I run windows me but I want suse to be my main OS ... I thought by getting the suse dvd that I could install the entire system without swapping CD's .... I guess I could copy the entire dvd to my hard disk and install from there..
The installation program sees my hard drives .. my cdrom .. but it doesn't see my dvd-ram drive ... any help ...
The DVD disk itself is bootable, which points more towards a problem in you DVD drive being bootable. Have you booted off a DVD or CD before? I'm guessing that your DVD-RAM is a SCSI device - have you checked in the SCSI BIOS to make sure that you have set it to be bootable? You'll also need to check your mobo BIOS.
Check the kernel messages as the kernel is booting - does your DVD drive show up in the messages relating to the SCSI card?
Hope that helps somewhat, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\

Yes you can boot from the SuSE DVD, make sure you set the BIOS, the DVD drive as the first boot option. -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net 100% MS FREE Absolutely no component of Microsoft was used in the generation or posting of this e-mail.
